William Hill Series The William Hill Series will be based on a number of instruments containing unaltered Hill pipe work along the same lines as the Father Willis series. Several instruments are currently under consideration for samples ranging from a small one manual of limited specification up to a large and comprehensive four manual. William Hill shares the distinction with Father Henry Willis of being one of the major players in the last half of the 19th century. Whilst undeniably romantic, the tonal ethos of his instruments differs from that of Willis yet is still capable of producing an equally exciting sound. Major instruments include the Town Hall in Sydney, Australia (at one time the largest in the world), Birmingham Town Hall, Eton College and several cathedrals. His instrument in the Royal Panopticon might be described as the first cinema / theatre organ ever built. The company amalgamated with the Norwich firm of Norman and Beard early in the 20th. century and was later financed by the Christie family (of auctioneers and Glyndeborne fame). In addition to religious and secular instruments produced under the H,N & B label they were responsible for the Christie Cinema Organ. The company ceased operation at the end of the 20th. century. |
